The Weekly 5 Featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi
Welcome to The Weekly 5 where I share 5 things I enjoyed from the week!
1. Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer
Star Wars dropped the Obi-Wan trailer on May the 4th, which probably didn’t surprise too many people. I’m all-in on the Star Wars shows given how much I’ve enjoyed The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Ewan McGregor returning is a big plus in my book and I’m excited to see where this one goes in comparison to the other two shows.
2. Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer Breakdown
Once you’ve watched the trailer, I recommend checking out the breakdown from Star Wars Meg, who always does a great job of catching things that I do not.
3. Moon Knight Episode 6 Breakdown
Speaking of breakdowns, I watched this one after sitting with the finale for a day. While I enjoyed the show overall, I felt like the end was a little rushed considering how much information we were given in episode 5. As always, New Rockstars goes deep and they catch a ton of things that I didn’t catch while watching it.
4. When Mary Jane Kissed Spider-Man
Within the context of the story, the scene is a cathartic release for Peter Parker, a rare opportunity to embrace his dual identity and be vulnerable with the girl he loves. On a much larger scale, it’s one of the most iconic and romantic kisses in Hollywood history, a unique and asymmetrical composition of rain-soaked, interlocked lips never seen before on the big screen. Spider-Man kicked off a wave of superhero saturation, yet 20 years later the kiss remains unforgettable—a testament to the chemistry of its actors, a nostalgic reminder of the blockbuster’s sneaky romantic potential, and a recurring subject of earnest homage. “It has an emotional connection to the audience that we always strive for,” Spider-Man cinematographer Don Burgess says. “Sometimes, it becomes bigger than all of us.”
It’s still hard to believe that this movie turned 20 this year, but there’s no doubt that this scene quickly became iconic.
5. “I’ll Find You” by John Carpenter
Another song released from the Firestarter soundtrack. I’m looking forward to checking this one out soon!
Content of the Week
Welcome to Geekdom is coming to a close with episode 300, but there’s still 20 episodes to go. This week, for episode 280, I talked to Janice Hawkins about Spirited Away and we make a little announcement.
Kt Schaefer returned to Chat Sematary for another Creepshow book discussion.
I also tried out something new over on YouTube and put together a video of what I’ve been reading lately. It’s a work-in-progress for how I want to do these types of videos (if I keep doing them), but let me know if these types of videos interest you at all.
That’s all for this week. Enjoy your weekend!
